CORE GROUP COMMISSIONING MANAGEMENT
Integrated, multi-disciplinary expertise
Core Group is proud to deliver commissioning management services at the highest possible level. Achieving this requires expertise across the many engineering disciplines that are essential for any complex construction project.
Our teams not only provide this multi-disciplinary expertise, but also ensure that disciplines collaborate effectively to verify that systems meet design specifications, operate efficiently, and comply with regulatory standards throughout the commissioning process.
Here’s an overview of the engineering disciplines that could be employed during a typical project:
Core Group commissioning management: a systematic response to an increasingly complex world
In the design, construction, and operation of buildings and infrastructure, commissioning management has become an integral part of the engineering and construction process. Effective commissioning management ensures that systems and components are designed, installed, tested, operated, and maintained according to the project description of operation.
We provide a systematic process to verify and document that a facility can operate as intended. This is a vital process that helps mitigate risks, ensures safety, and enhances the efficiency and performance of a building.
Commissioning management enables the integration of the complex systems required by modern buildings and infrastructure – for example HVAC, electrical, water systems, fire protection, and renewable energy systems – into a single, coordinated workflow.
FROM CONCEPT TO DELIVERY
Core Group’s role begins during the design phase, continues through construction, and extends into the initial period of operation. This end-to-end involvement is key to identifying potential issues early, reducing the possibility of unforeseen costs, and ensuring the quality of the final outcome.
Design phase
During the initial design process, as commissioning managers Core Group is focused on clarifying the building’s operational requirements. This includes working with the design team to establish performance, and ensures that the design of systems and components meet these criteria.
By defining performance expectations early on, Core Group reduces the likelihood of project delays or failures in the final build. On all projects, we develop a commissioning plan to outline specific tasks, schedules, and responsibilities for stakeholders, ensuring accountability and coordination.
All systems within Core Group projects are managed and monitored using the Core Centrum Reporting System. This bespoke software platform allows us to plan, track, report and record every detail of a project through every stage.
Construction phase
During construction, our role is to ensure that all systems are installed correctly. This phase involves inspecting equipment and materials, reviewing system installation, and overseeing preliminary testing.
Core Group’s commissioning team may conduct factory inspections, verify the quality of installations, and witness initial equipment startups. The goal is to identify and resolve issues early to avoid impacting project schedules or unexpected costs.
Testing and verification
Once the construction phase is complete, our role moves to testing and verification.
Comprehensive functional testing is performed to confirm that the systems operate according to agreed specifications and performance criteria. Each system undergoes rigorous assessments to check performance under normal load emergency conditions. Data collected from these tests are analysed to identify any discrepancies, so that adjustments can be made to ensure optimal functionality.
Operation
Core Group’s commissioning management role doesn’t end once a project is completed and operational. During the early operational phase, we can provide training for facility staff, produce documentation for operational procedures, or conduct seasonal testing to verify performance during various conditions. This support ensures that operators are able to manage often complex systems, and that the facility continues to meet its ongoing efficiency and performance targets.
The importance of commissioning management cannot be overestimated. It minimises the risk of project delays, ensures systems perform as intended, and can reduce long-term operational costs. Effective commissioning can also improve energy efficiency, enhance indoor environmental quality, and contribute to sustainability goals.
A cornerstone of modern engineering
In an era where construction projects become increasingly complex, and sustainability is more important than ever, we play a pivotal role in ensuring that projects not only meet current standards but are also future-proof, resilient, and cost-effective in the long run.
